Take A Look At Yourself And Make The ….. Change

42606cb95213bf3d90101ad3ff0ff70f

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28, NIV).

God has a plan to take every adversity and every hardship you go through and use it. He takes that difficulty and supernaturally turns it around and uses it to bring you good. TRUST the one that loves the process ~ It is in the process that we learn to trust him without borders. To cross to the other side of the mountain with only a leap of faith. For me…. to get out of the boat when the waves are crashing and the sound is loud.

It is in the process that he builds Godly character. He calmed the sea, He calmed the crowds and he will calm whatever the storm is in your life. Just be still in his presence and KNOW that He is God.

Lyrics from a Michael Jackson song say….

I’m Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
(Ooh!)
I’m Asking Him To Change His
Ways
(Change His Ways-Ooh!)
And No Message Could’ve
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place

Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make That . . .

Change!

Lord, Early I rise and ask that you change in me what needs changing.  You are the potter and I am the clay. Today, one step closer to you is what I seek. One step close to you in this process and journey that I am on with you. As one of my favorite songs says…. Lord, give me a little more faith to believe what I already know ! Change…. by renewing my mind with your word. Change…. by acknowledging your ways not my ways in all that I do. May, I pause, ponder and pray today on the words that I speak. As your word says, life and death are in the power of the tongue. S_L_ O_ W   to speak, QUICK! to listen and S_L_O_W_ to anger.  You are so faithful and I am so thankful for your amazing grace and mercy ~ Amen.

Respond with…. GRACE ~

4967eed687197f7a404c4c46d5c81e90

Respond with… grace ~

Oh… so difficult at times…..
if we are perfectly honest, it is for us all in certain situations.

I often have to bite my tongue to actually “respond with grace”
and sometimes that means saying NOTHING… when I would like to say a lot.

PAUSE….. PONDER….. PRAY ~ before we speak. The lessons to be learned ~

I think Elvis was on to something when he sang…. “A Little Less Conversation” and a little more action PLEASE….

Grace… UNdeserved…..UNmerited….UNearned favor.

Be You…. Fearlessly ~

3de0f9a7c425a33f53a6ea63218216e3

Both of my children have told me this today and my husband and a friend have all told me this week that, “Imitation is the highest form of flattery.”  I sit here and pause and ponder on that. Is it really?

It gets old and disheartening when someone copies you constantly. Maybe as a young teen when you are trying to find yourself it is more in line to mimic or copy someone else but at some point you have to find who you are and what your purpose is on this earth. You will never find what you are searching for by walking and comparing yourself with others. As Pastor Andy Stanley says, ” There is no win in comparison .” As he changed it slightly, “Compar-a-SIN.”

I would like to remind all of us of some beautiful thought provoking quotes.

1. YOU are born an original, don’t live like a copy. Find your voice. Embrace your uniqueness.

2. BE YOURSELF- An original is always worth more than a copy.

3. You were born an original, don’t die a copy.

4. Be your own kind of beautiful.

5.  Be Fearlessly Authentic.

I love this last one, Fearlessly Authentic. My motto for the year, “LiveFearless2015.”  God made us in His image but he also made us unique. We all have a specific calling that only we were made to do. His purpose for us  and His way for us. We are all different parts of the same body of Christ and each part is vital.

When you continue to copy someone else, or try to steal their ways that make them unique or their plans and dreams, you are saying, You’re afraid that there’s nothing great inside of you, nothing unique about you that anyone would  like or treasure. This is a lie from the enemy.  God does not make any junk.  The truth is,  you have special gifts  inside of you hand-tailored by God for you to bring to the table that no one else brings. You’re the only one whose got that “it” from God. ~

I read this today…  Following God is like copying the work of a master artist: only God gives each of us different colors and medias to copy it with. No one has all the right materials and all the right abilities. Some of us may have to paint ours entirely in blue, some of us may not have a pencil to get the general shape in place. But sometimes we can share our materials to help others complete their picture.

When we surrender our lives to Christ, we are surrendering our ways to line up with his ways. But God, still uses the unique blueprint he designed from the beginning , the unique gifts he gave only you to fulfill His purpose and His plan for your life as well as the body of Christ. Share your gifts, quit trying to share gifts that were not yours to share.

We should all learn from our competitors but never copy. In business, we need to find something that sets us apart from our competition. Uniquely different but oh so marketable. In our walk, our life lived in front of others, we should be focusing on our walk with the Lord, not someone else’s walk. At the end of our life when we stand before our Almighty God, we will be answering for what we did with the gifts and abilities he gave us NOT others.  There is no win in comparison. It is a trap. It is an outwards characteristic of an inward heart problem. We have to get to the root. When we compare and copy constantly of others we are focusing on those around us instead of focusing on our glorious savior.

Be Fearless. Be Fearlessly You ~ Imitation is not flattery it really is a lack of creativity. Our God that we serve makes no mistakes. He is the creative master painter. No two sunrises or sunsets are ever the same. The colors are vivid, each with its own shades, own shape and it is beautiful breathtaking. No two handprints are the same. No two fingerprints are the same. God made us all different for a reason. To not embrace ourselves is to not embrace the creation of the Creator.

He knew us in our Mothers  womb.  He designed each one of us to be wonderfully, fearfully and beautifully made.  As the song Wonderfully Made by Sarah Harts says,” If we could just see just for one day, the way that he sees us.”  It would truly change everything.

Jesus loves me…. Oh how he loves me ~  Jesus loves me the Bible tells me so. Embrace this truth and this song that we learned as a child. It truly gives us the freedom to be fearlessly authentic.

In His Love and Mine,

Darla

Not For Applause…

10612632_10203444695090352_8045647223453739468_n

This quote reminds me so of my Grandparent’s. How I miss them so. Today is one of those days that I wish I could spend time with them just…one more day.

What a legacy they had. How many lives they touched. How many lost, hopeless lives were changed because through them the love of Jesus Christ was shown. I sit here and think of how many stories, how many times, I have heard , “I came to know Christ through your Grandfather’s sermon .” God’s protective hand held them in the palm of his hands while they had their earthly walk.

This week, was one of the first weeks that I have really been able to sit down and really read my Grandfather’s Bible and all of its notes and cards with sermon notes on it. I always cried before. This week, I flipped through the pages and just laid my hands on many of the pages knowing his hands, his powerfully prayers, his tears were all on these pages for decades. Of course, one of the first index cards that I my eyes saw was something of such meaning to me this week. Perfect timing and it was some great points for our small group study that we are having in our home. Just had to look up and say, thank you.

This Bible I hold  is worn thin. The things of significance that he recorded has such meaning to me today. I cherish this and it is truly one of my prized possessions. I said if only this Bible could talk, what stories it  could tell of lives it saw changed. But, then I think, isn’t this what the word of God is all about. It is a record of history and stories. It is a love letter, laws of guidance, language of love from the glorious Lord to his children. Oh, the stories it tells if we would simply be still and know that He is God. Be still in his presence and listen to the sound of his voice.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. I really feel like both of  my G-parent’s  are surrounding me in my great cloud of witnesses. They are saying, ” My girl, we believe in you. Sis, we love you. Stay Strong, look to HIM.”  Their voices are in my head. I hear their words so clearly.

This morning I am so  inspired by the godly examples these saints set during their lives. They are the real deal saints  whose past lives of faith encouraged others to live that way, too.  My two precious Grandparent’s  have gone before us, each bearing witness to the life of faith we now live. How, I long to live up to the legacy that their name carries.  How I long to run this race and finish the course and know I have done my best. May, I praise his name . Even in this race when I stumble, When I have fallen on my face, that I pick up the torch with a tenacious spirit and continue the path before me. May I see it clear for the Lord’s word  is a lamp unto my feet and a light into my path.

Good Morning Lord,

Thank you for another day. Thank you for another chance to be a difference maker for you. Father, search my heart and know me well. See if there be any ways in me that keep me from following you. My heart has deceived me many times before and I have so often walked in my own desires, Strip away all of my selfishness and clothe me with more of YOU. Teach me not only to say the words but truly understand the meaning of Less of me and more of You in all that I do. Teach me and give me wisdom to really understand the concept of not being offended. Your wisdom, your ways in all that we do.

Thank you for giving me such an example of what a follower of you was really all about. You shined through them and the light is still shining in us long after they have been gone. Grandma has been walking with you six months in Heaven. I wish I could see all the rewards that they both received from you. Whoever, was in line behind them, well they simply had to wait a long time because of all the times  ” Well Done’s ”   that was happening.  Thank you Father for all your blessings. Thank you for surrounding me with Godly, faithful prayer warriors and friends in this journey that I am on. You are so faithful and I give you all the praise. Create in me a new heart and give me a steadfast spirit. Your plan, Your ways, What part do I play in your plan? I humbly come before you and ask, show me the way.

How, I praise your name ~

Never…. Ever…. Give UP ~

never give up

Life is going to find way to test you. The Lord allows us to be tested to refine us. He allows circumstances to shape us to be more Christ like. The enemy is going to test you also to see if you really believe what you say you believe. At times, you may feel that it is unfair.

The urge to quit during these times are the highest but don’t give in. IN these times we must remember our role. The Lord said I am the vine and you are the branches. Let’s not get our roles confused. If you remain in me and my words reman in you, ask whatever you will and it shall be done. No, he is not talking about a car, beach house, etc. Context is always important. God is talking about fruit. The character we need , he will give us the fruits of the spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self control

We will produce much fruit in him but apart from him we can do nothing. Being a better you is not the goal, it is being more Christ like.

Whatever your dream is, if it’s important to you, then fight for it. Just remember that there is a way to achieve your dreams. His way, His will , His plan…. is always the best ~

This morning, with tears running down my face and I am sitting here in the silence before you, Lord.  I am reminded that you are all I need.  I am so thankful for your grace and your mercy.

As I pray this  often, let me ask once again,  give me a little more faith to believe what I already know. Show me your ways. Guide my steps. Lead me to your righteousness. Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name, lead me and guide me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Every where that I go Lord, every step that I take, may I know that you are with me.

These battles in life are hard, Lord. I am on the battlefield. I feel like this warrior is a child this morning. My heart is overwhelmed.  I stand in the gap so many times for the prayers of others that you gave me the honor and privilege of allowing them to confide in me. There are times with these prayer request and the battles of my own also, it is overwhelming.  I ask for my joy to be restored. A fresh pouring out of joy that only comes from you. I am yours Lord.

Lord, cover me with your protective hand. You are my hiding place in the days of trouble. You are my Father and my protector. I run to you Lord. With arms open wide, I run to you.

Open my eyes, Open my ears that I hear your voice. The sweet sound, the sweet whisper of my Heavenly Father.  The waters are over my head Lord. May my eyes look up to you  my lifeguard and see your glory. May my soul rejoice once more. For you Lord, you are worthy of all praise ~  Lord, it is you that I seek. It is you ~ With all my heart and with all my soul, It is you that I will seek forever more ~

Joy Robbers or Joy Chasers? This is the question? What Are We Displaying?

9769da5cd7790a22da578c11d0f07c6f

Max Lucado says, “To call yourself a child of God is one thing. To be called a child of God by those who watch your life is another thing altogether.”

Having a critical eye and a critical spirit does not line up with the characteristics of our God. The mercy and grace that we show others is what is going to be given back to us. None of us, no not one will manipulate or talk our way out of the principles of sowing and reaping ~ I saw a picture this morning with a great quote. “There are two kinds of people in this world, the ones that truly submit and say, God your will be done and the other kind, God says to them, “Ok, have it your way.”

In this life, there are going to be powerful lessons and painful lessons. People are going to hurt us and let us down. Just because someone says friend, does not mean they are. Betrayal will happen. Being slighted and cheated will happen. So, what do we do at that crossroad? Do we become better or bitter? Do we allow the circumstances to rob our joy?
This is what the enemy is wanting to do to us as Christians. Lose our joy ~He KNOWS that he cannot take our salvation away. He knows we were bought with a price, the powerful blood of Jesus, So what does he do? He slithers his way in our lives and whispers thoughts that if those thought are not crushed they will become actions that display themselves in anything but the fruits of the spirit.

We have to hold up the spiritual mirror which is the word of God each morning and get ready in front of that mirror. When we first wake up in the morning and we look in the physical mirror and say, “OH WOW”, we address those OH WOWS before we walk out the door. How much more productive would we be if we spent some time addressing the OH WOWS in our spiritual lives? God is in the business of cleaning house. We are his house. His church. His people. He wants the dirt, grime, nasty and mean characteristics out of his house. It is so much easier when we say, here we are God , I am yours. It is so much harder when we will not let go of our pride and submit to his ways. We think God does not know what he is doing. This is really what we are saying so you might as well admit it, “God, I got this one. God, I don’t need your help.”

He is an ALL or nothing God. How do we love the unloveable? How do we forgive the unforgivable? I can’t in and of myself. I really don’t want to. I want to tell them to stay away from me or else??? BUT GOD, through him I can master this test with people. His grace, His ways, His purpose. It is HIS PLAN. What part do I play in your plan God? The word tell us we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. He is the God of the impossible.

We must seek his wisdom. We must come to the place in our lives that we, BE STILL AND KNOW THAT HE IS GOD ~ yes, even in the midst of battle. Even in the mist of pain, betrayal, whatever you are facing. Be still ~

“Live a life of love just as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us” (Ephesians 5:2)

Let it be….

ff272d206f12cbebaef7c5c2f424a1d1

One year ago today, I started this website. Got a Happy Anniversary notification this morning from Word Press. One year, wow ~ As I reflect and I look back at the year, the lessons that I have wrote about, I look back and say, BUT GOD !

There have been deep valleys and high mountains in this last year. God is more real to me than he has ever been. Friends, he truly draws closer to us when we draw closer to him.

Right now, this very moment, this season that I am in is one  of great testing. I have faltered, I have cried because the pain is so real and the attacks are fierce, BUT GOD, has been there every step of the way. He has protected me  from  physical danger. He is protecting me spiritually through mighty and fierce spiritual warriors that have rallied beside me in this battle that is before me. The Lord opened their  spiritual eyes to this battle and they are surrounding me with encouraging words and prayer. It is like anointing oil being poured over my head.

This journey that I am on is one of redemption. I am also learning the more equipped and spiritually fit I get, the more opposition comes against me. It is confusing and it is painful, BUT GOD, is not the God of disorder but the God of peace. I must go back to the foundations that I believe in  at times like this.

So, set before me is the question, do you really? Do you really believe what you say? Do you really, no matter what? So what is my answer to this real and powerful enemy that is attacking, My answer is this, JESUS !

I trust in the one and only Mighty God. He is my savior. Through his mercy, strength and love, I will be victorious.  The Lord is my shepherd. I will rest in his arms. I have to submit to him in all my ways and rest in his arms.

God is with me. I am NOT alone. Lord, show me your ways. With all my heart and soul, I live to worship you and lead me to righteousness for your name sake.

Every day, I need you more. Everywhere I go, may I remind myself and constantly meditate on the fact that I am not alone. I Know that I KNOW that you are with me.

Lord, I am seeking you this morning. Thank you for your protective hand. Thank you for your blessings of spirit filled believers surrounding me and reaching out to me. Perfect timing that only can come from you my loving Father.

Guide me today and the days ahead. I worship you Lord. Your power and your glory are so real. Your holiness is so real. Your presence is before me. Lord, your mercy and wonders  truly awakes my senses to a level I have never known. Whenever I call your name, you are there.

The name, “JESUS” has so much power. We grew up hearing about it. We sang songs in church about it as children. But, now I KNOW just how powerful the name really is and there is no other name but Jesus. The only name that saves. The redeeming name. The name that brings hope. The name that brings protection. The name that should create worship in each one of us.  As my new favorite song  from Christie Nockels says….. Let it be , Let it be Jesus, the FIRST name that I call. Now and forever more.

God is faithful. This Sovereign God of the universe truly deserves ALL praise by ALL people. May my voice ring loud ! He is all that I need ~

Gossip- Are We Entertaining It, Doing It or Fighting Against it Daily ?

b507151c80ad8c33b2fe5e3a5c115e46

Great minds discuss ideas, Average minds discuss events, Small minds discuss people- Eleanor Roosevelt

What do you think of when you hear the word gossip? Does a memory flash in your head? Do you get a pain in your chest because you still feel the hurt of what someone said about you that was untrue? How about you? How many times have you said something about someone that even if it was true was indeed damaging to their reputation? Even if it is true, does it make it alright? Does it make it right in the eyes of God?

I have been thinking about this after seeing a post from a sweet lady that I knew several years ago but have not seen in several years.  She wrote a Facebook post yesterday. You can tell she was hurt and had been wounded by gossip. Do I need to know the details? NO ~ We don’t have to know the details but can still have compassion .

I really believe that when someone gossips about someone else that it really does not say a lot about the person they are speaking about but it says a lot about the person doing the talking. It really has taken me years to really grasp the truth of this fact.

Experience has revealed that those who spend a lot of time talking viciously about other people, either have no other form of conversation, or get a significant rush when they criticize others. They often falsely think that by putting someone else down, they elevate themselves and YET God’s word says we are to pray for our enemies.

This journey to be Christ Like is exhilarating on days and there are days that it is physically painful. Pray for you enemies, SERIOUSLY? Are we sure that this has been translated correctly in the Bible? Yes, I have asked myself that one. Just being real. It is the hardest thing to do. I must admit for years, I did not do this. I would stand up and fight and battle and the only one that was exhausted mentally and physically was me. It has taken me many years and yes wrinkles to understand the grace of God. What he commands us to do is for our own good. He is our mighty protector. If I describe myself as a “MaMa Bear” that is fierce and protective over her children, how much more protective is God over us? God is our defender. The battles that we fight are the Lord’s. He really does not need our help just our obedience.

Words are extremely powerful. Proverbs 18:21 (NIV) says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Gossip is painful ~ Hateful words travel to the heart and pierce the soul.  I know firsthand how hurtful gossip can be, how fast gossip travels and how it can destroy one’s self confidence. I allowed that to happen before I truly understood where my confidence comes from and it is not a Dr. Phil book or any other self help book. It is from the Great Physician, the Almighty God, his and his book alone.

God’s word COMMANDS us  that it is never okay to gossip. Scripture points to the damage that can be done by someone who doesn’t keep confidences or who has a loose tongue. Two of my favorites are Proverbs 16:28 (NLT) “A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends” and, Psalm 34:13, (ESV) “Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.” Do we want to plant seed of encouragement or destruction? Hey please know I am asking myself this same question~

So, how do we as flesh in this world deal with this as Christians. I truly believe we have to go back to our foundation, the word . We are to be “CHRIST_LIKE” .  Our responsibility is to present our highest self—as best we can. Remember again, God has given us righteousness to do RIGHT, NOT do right to get righteousness.

Yes, we all make mistakes . We have are been guilty of  tearing others down. But, we also have to own that this, it is a clear choice. The Apostle Paul clearly stated  in Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

Second, we have to make a choice to distance ourselves instead of surrounding yourself with those who talk about other people and other people’s business, surround yourself with those who talk about good. Who lead you closer to God. Who GROW you and who hold you to be accountable.  It is so much more rewarding to have conversations that illuminate and enlighten rather than tear people down.

God’s word  teaches us about accountability for every single word that comes out of our mouths! Matthew 12:36-37 (NIV) says, “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Words of Grace. I can remember so many days that words of encouragement and grace changed my perspective and changed my day. Words of grace is what Jesus showed. He changed peoples lives with grace not gossip.

I heard a sermon last year from one of our Associate Pastor’s at church. I will never forget these words,  “The more we know about someone’s story the more judgment decreases and  our mercy increases.”  Think on these words today~

There was once a small beauty shop that was in a remodeled garage.  In the make shift shop there was  a sign above the hairdryer stating, “No Gossiping Allowed. If You Want to Talk About Someone, Talk About Jesus.”

The point is, we must nip gossip in the bud. Cut it off at its knees. Don’t even go there. And, let it be known that talking about other people is not allowed in your space. In this journey, Christ is constantly refining us, no matter where we are on the path. Some have just started, some are further along BUT we are ALL being refined if we are submitting our will to Christ. As believers, we have to deal with this demonic destructive weapon of the enemy. We can’t entertain it. We can’t do it. We have to become stronger against it and we have to repent when we do it. Less of you and more of me God. Sounds sweet. Sounds great. Sounds righteous. It also is hard on days, painful at times but the Most rewarding thing you will ever do.

Forgive me, forgive us when we fail God and once again, The sun is about to rise on a new day. I am so thankful that your mercies are new every morning. Clean slate. Let’s get this day started. Or as Toby Mac and Mandisa say in their song,

It’s a good morning
Wake up to a brand new day
This morning
I’m stepping, stepping
Stepping on my way

Good morning
You give me strength
You give me just what I need

And I can feel the hope
That’s rising in me
It’s a good morning

MAKE THIS DAY COUNT FOR ETERNITY ! Because it does ~

In The Sleepless Nights….

2ba8f2c58c5712f7e80b8bd4cc389722

Exodus 33:14- “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.”

The promise of God that I lean on many days and many sleepless nights. Many times when my heart is so heavy, I pray and write. Many nights, I can only be silent and just read. When we do not have peace, we need to go back to the one who is peace.

The battle between the spirit and flesh is so real. People hurt with their words. People hurt with their actions. If they only knew, would it change them or do they even care? We cannot change people, we can only change ourselves and how we react to the carelessness of others.

So, wait, hold on, keep pressing in to the maker of your soul. The pain, it is no surprise to God. Searching for peace in the early hours of the morning by the only one that can give a peace that passes all understanding. So thankful for the counsel of the Holy Spirit.

God really is close to the broken hearted and the ones that are crushed in spirit. He is so real. Drawing closer to God in the valleys is what gives us the strength to climb up the mountain so that we get to enjoy the view and be in the presence of the glorious Lord. He is faithful ~
